As the numbers of deaths of wild horse foals captured during the Triple B wild horse "gather" currently under way in Nevada increases, disturbing photographic evidence of abuse of the foals has been uncovered. A "Gather" is the BLM’s euphemism for a wild horse roundup.

Grass Roots Horse, Inc. is pleased to announce they have been awarded 501(c)3 non-profit tax-exempt status retroactive from September 15, 2010. Based in citizen action and community involvement, they are an equine welfare and mustang advocacy group whose mission is to affect positive change for horses, mules, and donkeys wherever needed.

Two briefs were recently filed in the ongoing lawsuit brought by journalist Laura Leigh against the Bureau of Land Management and Department of Interior. The briefs are in connection with the Silver King wild horse roundups conducted in Nevada this past September.

A Response was filed in Nevada court on Tuesday, October 12, 2010 to the BLM‟s responses in the Motion for Temporary and Injunctive Relief in the Silver King, NV wild horse roundup, originally filed by the Plaintiff, Laura Leigh against the Bureau of Land Management, Interior Dept. and the Nevada State Director of the BLM. This lawsuit is based 100% on violations to First Amendment rights.

A Motion for a Temporary Restraining Order was filed at 5 a.m. PT September 24, 2010 in Nevada. The action was brought by Laura Leigh, photojournalist and videographer who is supported by Grass Roots Horse in this matter.

In what can only be described as suspicious timing, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM)has issued a new press release that now states public lands will not be closed as previously declared by the BLM and Department of Interior, now suddenly stating they are aware of public interest. We at Grass Roots Horse are not fooled by this latest version of the Bureau of Land Management’s extreme gymnastics to prevent scrutiny of their actions and activities by our court system and the concerned public.

A Complaint seeking Declaratory and Injunctive Relief was filed September 22, 2010 in regard to the proposed Silver King Wild Horse roundup to be conducted in Nevada by the Bureau of Land Management. The action is brought by Laura Leigh, a credentialed photojournalist and videographer who had been among other members of the press who were singled-out during previous wild horse roundups, which the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) euphemistically calls "gathers."

The lawsuit regarding the July Tuscarora wild horse roundups and First Amendment Rights had some initial victories that I am not sure many people are aware of. I also wanted to give an update on the action still pending on this lawsuit.

Aug 11, 2010 On August 10, 2010, Laura Leigh, filed a Motion For Reconsideration of Denial of Plaintiff's Order to Show Cause Re: Contempt brought against Ken Salazar, Secretary of the Department of the Interior, Bob Abbey, Director of the BLM and Ron Wenker, Nevada State Director of the BLM in Nevada District court. July 31, 2010 On July 30, 2010 Laura Leigh re-filed Contempt of Court charges against Ken Salazar, Secretary of the Department of the Interior, Bob Abbey, Director of the BLM and Ron Wenker, Nevada State Director of the BLM in regard to what BLM calls the "Tuscarora wild horse gather." Link
